Case study: A.S. WATSON INSTALLS PAYSTATIONS FOR INCREASED SECURITY

 

A.S. Watson operates in Belgium through the ICI Paris XL perfume chain and the Kruidvat shops.

After a number of recent robberies on A.S. Watson shops in the Netherlands, there was an important need for a secure solution. The Trekpleister branch of shop manager Carina Stokebrook is one of the shops that now has a Brink's Paystation. She immediately noticed that this closed-circuit checkout solution is beneficial for the sense of security on the floor. But there are more advantages.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Yuri Dimitruk is Head of Security and Loss Prevention at A.S. Watson. He was looking for a secure solution for the high-risk branches. Yuri: 'We were already working with Brink's cash transport when Paystation came up. For us it was mainly about security. Paystation is one of the last resources for the high-risk branches, other than a permanent security guard at the door.’

THE SOLUTION

Yuri: 'There is a need to install dozens more PayStations this year. The experiences of the branches are positive. In any case, it gives staff a sense of security. Because you have to be really stupid to rob a shop with a PayStation.

Carina agrees: We can't get to the money any more, it's also written at the entrance and on the machine itself. So you can be sure that they know there is nothing to be gained here. In addition, internal fraud is no longer possible.

"OUR AMBITION IS THE TOTAL UNBURDENING OF CASH IN SHOPS"

ONGOING

The integration of Paystation with the portal does not yet exist. There is also no integration with the cash register software of A.S. Watson. So a few actions still have to be done manually, such as entering the purchase amount and the administrative processing of the turnover. The change also has to be replenished in the machine.

Yuri: 'Ultimately we want Brink's to take care of the entire change process, so that retailers no longer have to worry about cash. We are currently in talks with Brink's about taking care of all this.

THE RESULT

Carina: "Our customers react positively. They have to get used to it. But it is all very easy to use. Once everyone is used to Paystation, I expect it to go faster than with an ordinary cash register. Then we will have more time to spend on our customers.

"IT IS SAFE, EFFICIENT, HYGIENIC AND ERROR-FREE"

I expect that many other retailers will also want a Paystation. It is safe, efficient, hygienic, you cannot make mistakes anymore, it is always correct, it is just a whole lot less to worry about. Brink's gets an automatic signal when the Paystation needs to be emptied. I no longer have to count money from the cash registers. Previously, we had to wait for 10 minutes in the evening before the vault opened to store the money. Now we are outside one minute after closing time! So in short, I would have liked to have had this device years earlier.'
